Gallifreyan Name Patches
Individually designed and hand embroidered iron-on or displayable "prayer patches"

The TARDIS Data Core (Doctor Who wiki) says, "Prayer leaves were cloth symbols crafted by the people of the Gamma Forests. These were embroidered with the names of one's children...as a sign of belief that child would always come home to them." And The Doctor himself says, "The name you choose…it's like a promise you make." Plus, many Earth cultures believe the names we give our children reflect the innate attributes we see in them and our wishes or prayers for them. So how could a Terran artist and personal friend of The Doctor (well, one of his regenerations, anyway) possibly resist combining all four concepts into a new artistic venture: namely, "prayer patches" with names embroidered in Circular Gallifreyan.

Check out a dozen examples below and read about options available to you. And be sure to look at our Gallifreyan Quote Patches, too.

Inspired by and based on the Circular Gallifreyan created and copyrighted by Loren Sherman, which I'm using with his permission, these conversation-starters couldn't be more unique, especially for anyone with even the slightest interest in Doctor Who (that's not a requirement, though). Each design is customized to the individual, including color choices; can serve as an iron-on patch, hanging ornament, coaster, framed objet d'art, or whatever you like; and includes a translation key. What better way to celebrate yourself or to give a gift that says happy birthday, anniversary, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Ayyam-i-Ha, Naw-Ruz, thanks, wedding/baby congratulations, or simply "I'm thinking of YOU."

Each patch is designed by a real live artist, not by a computer algorithm; and is even compared against previous orders to ensure that people with exactly the same name each receive a unique design. For instance, if both actors named Harrison Ford ordered their own name patch (which would be a bit hard for the late silent-film actor, whereas the living Harrison Ford has indeed bought science fiction art when visiting home in Chicago), they would not get exactly the same design.

Gallifreyan Name Patch key samplePatches are 5"x5”, embroidered using up to three colors of thread on iron-on fabric available in a variety of colors, and oriented as your choice of a square or a diamond. They can be created as one patch embroidered on one side, back-to-back patches with words on both sides, with a rotated blank patch to form an 8-pointed star, and/or with a cord for hanging. (Note that square patches need a 5"x5" space or frame, while diamond patches and 8-pointed stars, though the patches themselves are also 5"x5", need a 7"x7" space or frame.) Depending on length of names, each patch can contain up to four words: say, given name, middle name, surname, and either a hyphenated surname, a title (like Dr. or Sir), or a suffix (like Jr. or IV). Names/words can be in English or any language that uses the Latin alphabet, which will be translated into the Circular Gallifreyan alphabet in a unique, personalized design. Along with each patch, you will receive a key, like the copyrighted sample to the right, that shows how your name was “built”.

And here’s something exceptionally fun: You can also show certain "timey wimey" and "spacey wacey" relationships like, for example, how you relate to other members of your family or how you've chosen to change your name over time or in different situations.
